- Inner peace

- Meditative states of absorption

- Happiness and joy, springing from within

- Opening of the heart with feelings of love and compassion

- Deeper connection with self and others

~ MANTRA ~

A mantra is just a syllable, word, or phrase you repeat during meditation. You can speak, chant, whisper the mantra.

The word mantra can be broken down into two parts: “man,” which means mind, and “tra,” which means transport or vehicle. In other words, a mantra is an instrument of the mind—a powerful sound or vibration that you can use to enter a deep state of meditation.

Like a seed planted with the intention, a mantra can be thought of as a seed for energizing an intention. Much in the same way you plant a flower seed, you plant mantras in the fertile soil of practice. You nurture them and over time they bear the fruit of your intention.

In this session, we will work with a specific Sanskrit mantra which we will repeat 108 times after learning about its meaning and use.

~ KIRTAN ~

After the mantra chanting practice, we will continue with a lead kirtan, using instruments and music as tools for the mantra.

Kirtan is a meditative practice, based on ancient chants, which has the ability to quiet the mind and bring us into the Heart, a space of no-thought and beyond reason. Everyone experiences kirtan differently, and you can think of it as a sing-along. The wallah (leader) sings the mantra, and the audience sings it back or together with them.  A single chant can go on for up to ten or twenty minutes.  As you sing with each other you experience a deep connection with the musicians, the other audience members and yourself.  And when the music stops, your mind is quiet. You can be completely immersed in the sound, with no words to distract the mind.  The magic of the chants can then carry you within. Kirtan is non-denominational, the Universal language of Spirit, the song of the Soul.

~ MAHASHIVARATRI ~

Mahashivratri, “The Great Night of Shiva” is the most significant event in India’s spiritual calendar.

The fourteenth day of every lunar month or the day before the new moon is known as Shivratri. Among all the twelve Shivratris that occur in a calendar year, Mahashivratri, the one that occurs in February-March is of the most spiritual significance. On this night, the planet is positioned in such a way that there is a natural upsurge of energy in a human being. This is a day when nature is pushing one towards one’s spiritual peak. It is to make use of this, that ritual and mantras for Shiva, the representation of Pure Consciousness, are used.

~ CACAO ~

We will have a cup of Keith's cacao, the original cacao made for ceremonies, and experience the nourishing and deepening effects that can offer into our practice.
